Mass-produced single core for industrial installations

The ÖLFLEX® WIRE MS 2.1 series consists of single-core installation wires designed for stationary cabling inside machines, switchgear, and industrial building infrastructure. The manufacturer - LAPP - designed this cable family with maximum versatility in mind: multiple certifications (HAR, UL MTW/AWM, CSA TEW) allow for the use of a single wire type across different markets without the need to maintain separate technical documentation for each region.

The 1 mm² cross-section combined with class 5 flexibility (fine-stranded multi-wire construction) makes the core flexible enough to be routed through cable ducts and device enclosures - although the product itself is intended for fixed installations. The minimum bending radius for fixed installation is 4 × outer diameter, which is approximately 11.6 mm.

Construction and materials

The copper conductor is tinned - the tin coating protects the core against corrosion and oxidation, which is important in humid environments and when soldering terminations. The insulation made of PVC provides adequate dielectric strength at a rated voltage of U₀/U = 450/750 V AC. The outer diameter is 2.9 mm, and the self-weight of the wire is only 16 kg/km, so even with larger installation lengths, the load on trays and supports remains minimal.

Production takes place in Germany.

Operating parameters and fire safety

The operating temperature range is wide:

• from −40°C to +70°C according to EN standards,
• up to +105°C with UL AWM and CSA TEW certification,
• up to +90°C with UL MTW certification.

The wire is flame retardant according to IEC 60332-1-2, meaning it has the ability to self-extinguish after the fire source is removed - which is important in enclosed control cabinets.

The fire reaction according to CPR classification is Eca - the wire is neither halogen-free nor low-smoke. For installations requiring the full Dca-s2,d2,a2 class, other LAPP cable series should be used.

Additionally, the product is PWIS-free (paint-wetting impairment substances) in accordance with VDMA 24364-B2-L - it does not contain compounds that hinder the painting of metal surfaces.

Applications and compatibility

The red core from the ÖLFLEX® WIRE MS 2.1 series is supplied as a spool / ring with a length of 100 m. In the manufacturer's offer, you will also find a version factory-packed in large cartons (up to 2000 m) under a catalog number ending with the letter K - an economical option for large-scale projects.

Typical applications:

• installations inside electrical switchgear,
• fixed connections in automation devices,
• AC/DC charging infrastructure for electromobility.

The product is marked with the CE sign, holds the EAC certificate, and has American (UL) and Canadian (CSA) approvals - one batch can enter the European, American, and Eurasian markets without changing the specification.

PVC insulation is available in many identification colors - red facilitates the marking of the L+ phase or an active signal in control installations.
