Mass production with one wire for three markets
The single-core wire ÖLFLEX® WIRE MS 2.1 with a cross-section of 2,5 mm² (AWG 14) is distinguished by the fact that it simultaneously meets European HAR standards as well as American UL and Canadian CSA standards. Instead of maintaining three separate cable series for different regions - one product is enough. This directly translates into lower technical documentation costs and simplified warehouse logistics.
The conductor is made of tinned copper, which ensures good solderability and corrosion resistance - important in humid production environments. The class 5 multi-strand construction means sufficient flexibility for installation work in switchgear and for internal machine wiring.
The black PVC insulation allows for use in dry and humid rooms - the manufacturer permits operation from −40°C to +70°C, and for fixed installations, the upper limit can reach +105°C according to UL data.
Fire resistance and operating conditions
The wire is self-extinguishing - it meets the requirements of IEC 60332-1-2 and UL VW1/CSA FT1, which means that after the source of fire is removed, the flame does not spread along the insulation. The Eca classification according to EN 13501-6 confirms basic fire resistance.
The rated operating voltage is 450/750 V, and a dielectric strength at the level of 2,5 kV ensures safe operation in switchgear and control circuits. The insulation resistance exceeds 10 GΩ·cm, which testifies to the high quality of the insulating material.
Practical applications
The wire is dedicated to:
- internal wiring of industrial devices,
- connections in control cabinets,
- field installations in production halls,
- circuits inside machines - where fixed or protected cable routes are required.
The product is supplied on 100 meter reels, which facilitates warehouse organization and shortens installation preparation time. The tinned conductor allows for the use of standard end-sleeves ferrules without additional surface treatment.
The wire is neither halogen-free nor low-smoke - when designing installations in enclosed spaces with increased fire requirements, alternative products from this LAPP family should be considered.
