Insulated busbar length: 12 modules BI1/16X12 607045

Application in single-phase distribution boards

BI1/16x12 type comb busbars are used to connect modular devices in a single row - most commonly in residential and commercial distribution boards. The horizontal layout of the busbar allows for rapid power supply to up to 12 devices with a standard module width (17.7 mm), which corresponds to a length of 210 mm. The 16 mm² cross-section ensures adequate current-carrying capacity while maintaining compact dimensions - the total height is only about 5 mm.

The comb connection means that the busbar slides into the terminals of the modular devices (MCBs, RCCBs, contactors), creating a continuous power conductor without the need for separate jumpers between devices.

Construction and design

The busbar is covered with white insulation. The insulation protects against accidental contact with live parts and minimizes the risk of short circuits between adjacent poles. The busbar is halogen-free, meaning no emission of toxic gases in the event of a fire - which is important in public utility building installations.

Fork terminals allow for the connection of conductors with a cross-section of up to 16 mm² using standard screw terminals. The fork design facilitates the removal and replacement of a single device without the need to disassemble the entire busbar sequence.

The busbar can be cut to size - the installer cuts off the excess part using busbar shears or a hand saw, adjusting the length to the actual number of devices in the distribution board.

Operating parameters and exploitation conditions

The busbar operates at a maximum voltage of 400 V AC, allowing for use in both single-phase (230 V) and three-phase installations as a separate busbar for each phase. The rated continuous current is 63 A according to ETIM classification; some manufacturer sources specify an allowable capacity of up to 80 A, which should be treated as a peak value for short-term loads.

When designing installations, short-circuit withstand must be taken into account: the conditional short-circuit current Iq reaches 0.63 kA, and the short-time withstand current Icw is 1.92 kA. The impulse voltage of 2 kV determines the resistance to switching surges.

The operating temperature range from -20°C to +50°C covers typical conditions inside electrical distribution boards - both in rooms heated in winter and in enclosures in stairwells that may be slightly prone to overheating in summer. The storage temperature reaches -40°C, so winter transport is not a problem.

The busbar is intended exclusively for single-pole devices - it does not have a dedicated neutral N path or auxiliary contacts. It is also not compatible with devices requiring the connection of N as a separate element on a common busbar.
