Safety and flexibility in industrial and commercial installations
This two-pole miniature circuit breaker from the Acti9 iC60L series has been designed to protect circuits against overloads and short circuits in demanding environments, such as industrial buildings, commercial facilities, or residential estates. The device with a rated current of 16 A and a C tripping characteristic is an ideal solution for installations with inductive loads where higher inrush currents occur – e.g., in the case of fluorescent lighting or electric motors. Thanks to the use of thermomagnetic technology, the device reacts precisely to faults, ensuring the continuity of installation operation while simultaneously ensuring the safety of people and property.
It is worth noting the high breaking capacity of this model, which in industrial conditions (according to the IEC 60947-2 standard) reaches 50 kA at a voltage of 230 V and 25 kA at 400 V. For applications compliant with the construction standard (IEC 60898-1), this capacity is 15 kA. Such a level of short-circuit resistance allows the device to be installed even in main distribution boards, where the risk of significant short-circuit currents is high. The energy limiting class 3 further minimizes the effects of short circuits, protecting connected devices from thermal and mechanical damage.
Ease of installation and functional solutions for the installer
For a professional, speed and ease of installation are key, which in this model has been addressed through a double-latch system. This allows for the removal of the device from the DIN rail without using tools – simply press the latch from the front, which significantly accelerates service work or the replacement of damaged components. Moreover, the device can be removed from the rail without the need to disconnect the distribution board busbars, which increases safety when working live (while maintaining appropriate precautions).
Screw terminals allow for the connection of conductors with a cross-section from 1 to 25 mm² (solid conductors) or from 1 to 16 mm² (stranded conductors), and their insulated design ensures an IP20 protection rating. The possibility of connecting conductors from both the top and the bottom provides great flexibility when routing cabling in distribution boards with limited space. It is worth adding that the device has a large area for circuit marking, which facilitates line identification in complex distribution systems.
Visual status signaling and operational durability
One of the most practical features of this circuit breaker is the visual status signaling system:
- VisiTrip indicator (white-red) informs about an electrical trip – if the indicator changes color to red after the device switches off, it means the protection has acted due to an overload or short circuit. This eliminates the need to check event history or guess the cause of the shutdown.
- VisiSafe indicator (green strip) confirms the physical opening of the contacts. This is a crucial function for safety during maintenance work – the installer sees a clear signal that the circuit is disconnected and it is safe to work on its further part.
The device is also characterized by high durability: it withstands up to 20 000 mechanical cycles and 10 000 electrical cycles, making it a reliable component for long-term investment in electrical infrastructure. The permissible operating temperature range is from -35 °C to +70 °C, allowing for installation even in unheated technical rooms or production halls with varied climatic conditions.
By meeting the requirements of the IEC/EN 60898-1 and IEC/EN 60947-2 standards, this model can be used in both domestic and industrial installations, offering universal protection for a wide spectrum of electrical applications. Its design also allows for system expansion by adding accessories such as auxiliary contactsor shunt trips, making it a flexible element of larger energy management systems. It is worth remembering parameters such as an insulation voltage of 500 V or the third-degree energy limiting class – these are features that determine the safety of the entire distribution system in difficult operating conditions.
