This two-pole miniature circuit breaker from the Acti9 iC60L series has been designed to protect circuits against overloads and short circuits in installations with a rated voltage of up to 400 V AC. The device features a rated current of 6 A and a C tripping characteristic, making it particularly useful in circuits with inductive devices, such as motors or fluorescent lighting, where short-term inrush current spikes occur. This ensures the circuit breaker will not trip incorrectly during normal equipment startup, while simultaneously cutting off power quickly in the event of a serious overload.
A key structural element is the unique system of visual indicators, which significantly facilitates the installer's work during a fault. The white-red Visi-Trip indicator immediately informs whether the disconnection occurred due to electrical tripping (overload or short circuit), allowing for rapid localization of the damaged circuit without the need to manually check every device. Meanwhile, the green Visi-Safe indicator confirms the physical opening of the contacts, providing safety assurance during service work further down the installation – an essential protection for personnel performing repairs.
High breaking capacity and mounting flexibility
In industrial conditions, the device's resistance to large short-circuit currents is crucial. This model offers a breaking capacity Icu of 50 kA at 230 V (in accordance with the IEC 60947-2 industrial standard) and 25 kA at 400 V. In applications compliant with the construction standard (IEC 60898-1), this capacity is 15 kA at both voltages. This level of protection allows the device to be used in main distribution boards, where the risk of high short-circuit currents is higher than in typical domestic installations. The energy limiting class 3 further minimizes the effects of short circuits, protecting connected devices from overheating and insulation damage.
Installation and operation have been facilitated by a thoughtful design:
- Double terminals allow for wire connection from both the top and bottom, increasing the flexibility of cable routing in the distribution board.
- The ability to connect wires with a cross-section from 1 to 25 mm² (single-core) or 1 to 16 mm² (multi-core) eliminates the need for additional ferrules in many cases.
- The device can be removed from the DIN rail without tools, and thanks to the double-latch system, dismantling a single module does not require disassembling the entire rail – saving time during modernizations or replacement of damaged components.
- A width of 2 modules (36 mm) allows for compact arrangement in modular distribution boards.
Compliance with standards and operating conditions
The device meets the rigorous requirements of the IEC/EN 60947-2 industrial standard and the IEC/EN 60898-1 construction standard, making it a universal solution for commercial, industrial, and advanced residential installations. The IP20 protection rating ensures safety against contact with moving parts through openings larger than 12 mm, and insulated screw terminals further increase safety during wire connection.
The device can operate in a wide range of ambient temperatures: from -35 °C to +70 °C, allowing for its installation in unheated technical rooms or production halls with varying climatic conditions. The rated impulse withstand voltage is 6 kV (overvoltage category IV), ensuring resistance to sudden voltage spikes resulting from atmospheric discharges or switching large inductive loads in the network. Thanks to low power loss (approx. 1.3 W), the device generates minimal heat even under long-term rated load, which translates to the operational stability of the entire distribution board. All key device parameters – such as the two-pole design with C characteristic or the wide operating temperature range – are integral parts of a design that ensures reliable electrical protection in difficult environmental conditions.
