The TeSys GV4 motor circuit breaker is a reliable protection device for electric motors, designed for both industrial and building installations. The GV4P03N model, a three-pole unit with a rated current of 3.5A (4-3.5A), provides effective protection against overload and short-circuit conditions. Thanks to its high short-circuit breaking capacity (Icu 50kA), it ensures safe operation of the installation even during sudden disturbances.

Characteristics and Applications

This breaker combines thermal and magnetic functions, enabling precise response to various fault types. The thermal characteristic protects the motor from overload caused by prolonged overcurrent, while the magnetic characteristic reacts instantly to sudden current surges such as short circuits. This solution is particularly suitable for applications requiring frequent motor starting and stopping, where high inrush currents occur—the C characteristic allows slower response to brief current spikes, making it well-suited for motor-driven equipment. The device is intended to protect three-phase motor circuits up to 1.5 kW at 400V and 0.75 kW at 230V.

Construction and Installation

The GV4P03N breaker features a compact design (dimensions: 81 x 155 x 165 mm) and weighs 1.6 kg, facilitating easy installation in electrical distribution boards. It has an IP40 protection rating, safeguarding against access to live parts and ingress of solid objects larger than 1 mm. EverLink terminals enable fast and secure wiring, minimizing installation time and ensuring reliable electrical connections. The adjustable thermal trip setting (1.4–3.5A) allows fine-tuning of the breaker’s sensitivity to match specific application requirements. Additionally, the phase-loss sensor enhances system safety by detecting the absence of any one supply phase. The breaker includes a current adjustment knob and is a fully integrated, ready-to-install unit—complete and operational immediately after removal from packaging.

The device is designed to operate in a wide ambient temperature range (-25–70°C), making it a versatile solution for diverse environmental conditions. Power losses are 13.8W at rated operating voltage (690V), and the adjustable short-circuit trip setting is 60A.
