Fire emergency switch – a key safety element

The manual fire emergency switch button PWP1, manufactured by SPAMEL, is a device designed to immediately cut off the power supply in the event of a fire hazard. Its function is to disconnect the building from the electrical power source during rescue operations, minimizing the risk of electric shock and facilitating the work of the fire brigade. This switch is particularly important in facilities with a volume exceeding 1000 m³ or containing explosion-prone zones.

Functionality and application

The PWP1 switch should be installed near the main building entrance or connection point, with clear signage. Its operation involves cutting off the power supply to all circuits, except those powering installations and equipment necessary during a fire (e.g., emergency lighting, alarm systems). The switch comes complete with a self-adhesive label with the inscription “Fire emergency switch”, which facilitates its identification. The device is available in surface-mounted version and can be equipped with a hammer for quick activation.

Signaling and technical parameters

The PWP1 switch has dual LED signaling – red (monitoring status) and green (activation status). The red LED lights up during normal operation, and after breaking the glass, the green LED lights up, indicating the power disconnection. The LEDs are terminated with a connection block, and the green LED should be powered separately, preferably before the switch. The switch design with two LEDs requires a minimum of 6 wires for connection (2 LEDs + 3 contacts).

The switch is characterized by a high degree of protection IP65, which ensures resistance to weather conditions and dust. It is made of plastic and has a rated insulation voltage Ui 500V and a rated continuous current Iu=Ith 10A. Compliance with PN-EN 60947-5-1 and IEC 60947-5-1 standards guarantees its reliability and safety of use.

Installation and additional information

The switch installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with applicable regulations and standards. It should be remembered that cutting off the power supply by the fire emergency switch must not cause automatic activation of a second source of electrical energy (except for sources powering devices necessary during a fire). The choice of switch type (A or B) affects the operation of the contacts after breaking the glass – type A activates automatically, and type B requires manually pressing the button.
