Copper bypass elbow with EPDM seals – 18 mm press-fit mounting

The 352141 bypass elbow is a one-piece component of the Profipress system, designed for installation in water supply, heating, and other pressurized systems. It features two identical press-fit connections, both adapted for copper pipes with an outer diameter of 18 mm. All connections are equipped with EPDM rubber seals, ensuring leak-tightness at temperatures up to 110 °C and a working pressure of up to 16 bar.

All components are made of copper without any additional protective coating – the surface remains in its raw state. This means there is no anti-corrosive coating or lacquer, which is typical for Profipress systems intended for concealed installation. The components do not require any surface treatment prior to installation – only a clean pipe and the appropriate press tool are needed.

Installation and safety

The connections are designed with SC-Contur technology – a special profile of the internal press surfaces. If a connection is not properly pressed, a visible leakage path appears during the pressure test (water or gas). This is not merely a diagnostic feature – it is a safety mechanism. The installer immediately knows whether the connection is leak-tight, without the need to disassemble the entire line.

The elbow length is 144 mm, and the working length of each connection is 100 mm – meaning that during installation on a pipe, approximately 10 cm of free length from the pipe edge to the nearest component is required. This is important when working in tight spaces or during installation within walls.

Application and operating conditions

The component is suitable for:

• water supply installations (potable water),
• heating systems (up to 110 °C),
• refrigeration and air conditioning installations,
• air compressors and noble gases.

It is not suitable for media containing hydrocarbon solvents (e.g., gasoline, turpentine), nor for installations where copper is placed directly before galvanized components – galvanic corrosion may occur.

For water supply installations: the water pH value must be ≥7.4 or TOC ≤1.5 mg/l (if pH is between 7.0–7.4). In heating systems, VDI 2035 and EN 12828 must be observed.

Compliance with standards: DVGW W 534 (for connections), EN 1057 (for copper pipes), DIN 1988 (for potable water installations). EPDM seals meet the requirements for fire protection systems (VdS G 4980009) for appropriate sizes.
