Bypass Elbow with SC-Contur – Safe and Visible Connection in Copper Installations

The 2427 Profipress bypass elbow is a one-piece copper component designed for installation in piping systems using copper pipes with an outer diameter of 22 mm. The "crimp sleeve – push-fit" connection type enables flexible pipe routing around bends without the need for additional components. All surfaces are in raw condition – there are no coatings, paints, or finishes, ensuring a clean and uninterrupted crimped joint.

The EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene) rubber gasket is pre-installed and ready to use. It requires no additional assembly or lubrication. It is resistant to temperatures up to 110 °C and is suitable for both potable water and heating systems. However, it is not suitable for contact with solvents, gasoline, or turpentine – a critical limitation to consider when selecting the medium.

SC-Contur – A System That Indicates Whether the Connection Is Correct

The key advantage of this elbow is the SC-Contur technology. If the connection is not properly crimped – during the first filling of the system with water or air – the gasket will visibly "push out" slightly. This provides a clear, physical error signal. There is no need to search for visual traces; a simple visual inspection is sufficient. In practice, this means fewer post-installation failures, faster leak tests, and a reduced risk of unsecured connections operating under pressure.

In a water test, an incorrect connection becomes evident at a pressure of 0.1 MPa (1 bar). In an air test, this occurs at 22 hPa – significantly below the system's nominal operating pressure.

Application and Operating Conditions

This component is intended for fixed and concealed installations – both within walls and under floors. It operates safely at a maximum pressure of 16 bar (1.6 MPa) and at the following temperatures:

  • Potable water: up to 85 °C
  • Heating systems: up to 110 °C

Compliant with DVGW W 534 and EN 1057 – verified for potable water systems according to DIN 1988. Do not install it directly before galvanized components – copper must not be "upstream" of zinc in the medium flow.

Elbow length: 141 mm. Effective connection length: 117.9 mm – this is the actual value during crimping, not a theoretical one. During installation, remember the flow direction, which is structurally defined.

There is no drain valve and no air vent. It is a simple elbow – but its simplicity is its strength.
