Wolf SPU-2-1000 buffer tank 2483047
Application and Role in Heating Systems
A 1000-liter buffer tank is a key component for stabilizing the operation of modern heating systems. The device serves to store excess heat generated by the source, e.g., a solid fuel boiler, heat pump, or solar collectors, thereby avoiding frequent boiler start-ups and stoppages. This allows the installation to operate within the optimal efficiency range, while the user gains greater thermal comfort. This model is intended exclusively for closed central heating (c.o.) installations, where the absence of oxygen in the circuit eliminates the need for internal anti-corrosion protection of the tank.
It is important to note that this buffer does not have an integrated coil, meaning it is dedicated as the primary heat store for heating circuits or as a supporting element for solar systems (in which case a version with a coil, SPU-W, is required). Its vertical, freestanding construction facilitates integration with various boiler systems, regardless of the heat source manufacturer.
Construction, Insulation, and Operating Conditions
A key aspect of this model is effective thermal insulation made of polyurethane foam with a thickness of 100 mm. Such an insulation layer thickness significantly reduces heat losses to the environment, resulting in lower operating costs and longer retention of water temperature in the tank. The tank is made of black steel, ensuring adequate mechanical strength while maintaining a reasonable self-weight (approx. 147 kg).
To facilitate logistics and on-site installation, the outer jacket together with the insulation has been designed to be removable. This is a significant feature when transporting through narrow passages or installing in rooms with limited space – after removing the cover, the unit becomes lighter and easier to maneuver. Once positioned at the final location, the jacket is reinstalled, restoring full thermal tightness.
This device requires installation in a closed system – its use in open gravity installations is not permitted due to the lack of an internal anti-corrosion coating resistant to oxygen corrosion. Thanks to its large capacity of 1 m³, this buffer is ideally suited for single-family homes and smaller public utility buildings where heat demand changes dynamically throughout the day.
