Wireless wind sensor RCW-21 – awning protection and weather automation

The RCW-21 sensor is a device that combines wind speed measurement (up to 99 km/h) and light intensity measurement (up to 99,000 lux). It is dedicated to working with SFP-22 controllers, but can also be used with the EFC-01 controller in the Exta Life system. Its main task is to protect facade awnings from damage caused by strong wind – automatically winding them up when the wind speed exceeds the set threshold. Control lock after winding protects against accidental reopening during a storm.

Functionality and application

RCW-21 is not only wind protection. Measured values of wind speed and light intensity can be used to create advanced home automation scenarios. For example, you can program automatic closing of awnings when cloudy or windy, which will save energy and increase comfort. The sensor works with a mobile application, allowing remote monitoring of weather conditions and configuration of operating parameters. This allows the installer to adapt the sensor's operation to the specific needs of the customer.

Construction and mounting

The sensor is designed for outdoor installation (IP44 protection class), which ensures its reliability in harsh weather conditions. Mounting is surface-mounted and requires only two screws. The device is powered by 12 V DC, and the set includes a ZNP-02-12 type power supply. Setting the wind speed threshold is possible both directly on the sensor using buttons and a display, and remotely via a mobile application. The ability to set 10 operating thresholds (15, 21, 28, 36, 45, 55, 66, 78, 91 km/h) allows for precise adjustment of the sensor's reaction to prevailing conditions.

Additionally, it is worth mentioning the two-way radio transmission at a frequency of 868.50 MHz with an algorithm based on a 128-bit key – this ensures secure and reliable communication with the remaining elements of the Exta Life system.
