Power socket – what is it for?

Power sockets and power plugs, also known as three-phase sockets and plugs, are electrical accessories used in installations supplying the so-called third phase, i.e. three-phase current - with a voltage of up to 400 V or even 500 V - to buildings. They are therefore needed wherever there is a need to connect three-phase machines and devices to the power supply, requiring more power to operate than available in standard 230 volt sockets.

A standard power socket is equipped with a plastic grounding. The housing is usually waterproof, made of very durable materials (high-quality plastic or steel). It provides adequate resistance to shocks, impacts and mechanical damage. Thanks to these features, power electrical sockets are used even in the most demanding conditions, although they can also be successfully used in home applications.

Where are power sockets used?

Power sockets are commonly used on farms, in larger industrial plants or on construction sites. They are also often used on military training grounds, where machines with higher power consumption are used.

These accessories are also used in smaller production plants and in home conditions (eg when connecting induction hobs and ovens) and in home garages. The main advantage of using power sockets is related to the lower load on the installation than in the case of single-phase power supply.
