Optical pyrometers allow not only for temperature readings, but also for obtaining an image of heat rays. Nowadays, however, optical pyrometers are being replaced by digital models. Such devices measure temperature automatically, and you don't need any special skills to use them. They are equipped with a screen that shows an image of the object with superimposed rays. The device is precise, has a wide range of applications, and is convenient to use.

How to choose a pyrometer?

When buying a pyrometer, check the measurement range . It depends on the wavelength that the detector is able to capture. For basic applications, a pyrometer that gives a reading in the range of 0 to 50 degrees Celsius will be enough.

An important issue is what materials you intend to use the device for. Not every pyrometer can measure the temperature of transparent objects.

Be sure to pay attention to the emissivity coefficient. This parameter affects the accuracy of the measurement. Simple pyrometers have an emissivity coefficient set to a fixed value of 0.95. Materials with low emissivity such as metallic, polished or painted surfaces require the use of pyrometers with an adjustable emissivity coefficient.
