Underground Mining Power Cable – Reliability and Safety in Demanding Conditions
This rubber-sheathed mining cable OnGc-G 0.6/1 kV is designed for operation in the demanding conditions of underground and open-pit mining facilities. It features high mechanical and chemical resistance, ensuring safe and reliable power supply to mobile and portable equipment. The cable’s construction, with tin-plated copper conductors and heat-resistant rubber insulation, guarantees long-term performance even under extreme temperatures.
Construction and Properties
The OnGc-G cable stands out with a robust design tailored to the specific requirements of mining environments. The copper conductors are made of Class 5 multi-strand wire in accordance with PN-EN 60228, ensuring flexibility and resistance to material fatigue. The working and auxiliary conductors are insulated with special heat-resistant rubber, while the protective conductor is insulated with conductive rubber. The conductors are twisted around a central core to enhance mechanical strength. The entire assembly is covered with an oil-resistant rubber sheath exhibiting high flame-retardant properties — oxygen index of at least 29 — significantly improving safety in potentially hazardous environments.
Insulation colors facilitate identification: in the 4-core version, these are green, red, natural, and black-striped protective conductor. In 5-, 6-, and 7-core versions, additional auxiliary cores are available in green, red, and natural colors. This cable is intended for continuous operation in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +90°C, with a rated voltage of 0.6/1 kV. The minimum bending radius is 6x outer diameter for fixed installations and 10x outer diameter for flexible connections.
Applications and Benefits
The OnGc-G cable is primarily used in underground, borehole, and open-pit mining — wherever high reliability and resistance to harsh environmental conditions are required. It is ideal for powering mobile and portable equipment outside zones with potential methane or coal dust explosion hazards.
- Mechanical Durability: The cable’s construction provides resistance to mechanical damage common in mining environments.
- Chemical Resistance: The oil-resistant rubber sheath protects against chemical substances present in mining environments.
- Safety: The non-propagating flame sheath enhances safety in potentially hazardous areas.
- Flexibility: Multi-strand copper conductors ensure cable flexibility, simplifying installation and equipment connection.
- Wide Temperature Range: Operation from -40°C to +90°C enables use in diverse climatic conditions found in mines.
