Heating cables with automatic power limitation are used primarily to protect pipelines against freezing and to make up for heat losses in hot water installations. They can also be used as anti-icing heating in gutters and downspouts.
The power limiting heating cable has a conductive thermistor layer between the two copper wires with a temperature dependent resistance. After connecting to the network, the flowing current causes its heating and an increase in resistance. As a result of the increase in resistance, the current drops automatically and the amount of heat emitted by the heating cable is reduced.
The phenomenon of temperature stabilization occurs along the entire length of the heating cable and depends on the ambient temperature. A self-regulating heating cable reduces
