Two-pole main switch HIS‑63/2

The HIS‑63/2 main switch is a compact isolation device designed for mounting in standard modular distribution boards with a width of two modular units. It provides the function of disconnecting electrical circuits while ensuring full galvanic separation.

The device is designed for residential applications and small industrial installations where safe power disconnection is required for servicing or maintenance purposes. Thanks to its compact design with a mounting depth of 69.5 mm, it fits perfectly into typical surface-mounted and flush-mounted distribution boards.

Technical parameters and construction

The switch operates at a rated voltage of 415V (maximum) and 240V (minimum), handling a continuous current of 63A with the capability to reach up to 125A momentarily. The short-circuit strength is 1 kA, and the rated breaking capacity reaches 12.5 kA, making it suitable even for circuits with increased load capacity.

The two-pole construction includes two making contacts ensuring the simultaneous disconnection of both phase conductors. The device provides an IP40 protection rating, protecting against finger contact and access by solid objects larger than 1mm in diameter.

The "lift terminal" type terminals allow for the connection of conductors with a cross-section of up to 50mm², significantly expanding the range of possible applications compared to standard modular switches. The arrow symbol on the housing clearly indicates the switching direction.

Application and user benefits

The primary application is as a main switch function in residential distribution boards and small commercial facilities. It enables the safe disconnection of the entire electrical installation during service work or emergency situations.

For the installer, a key benefit is the possibility of locking the device with a padlock—this function allows for compliance with strict health and safety (HSE) requirements during work on electrical installations. Additionally, the high current parameters allow for the handling of even more heavily loaded circuits without the need for larger switches.

The compact two-module width allows for economical use of space in the distribution board, leaving room for other protective or control elements.

Installation and operation

The device is mounted on a standard DIN TH35 rail according to EN/IEC standards, occupying exactly two modular slots. The operating temperature ranges from ‑5°C to +40°C, allowing for installation both indoors and outdoors (provided the distribution board has the appropriate IP rating).

Heat dissipation is 4.8W per pole, which should be taken into account when designing distribution board ventilation, especially under high long-term loads.
