Mast for horizontal conductors – protection against atmospheric discharges

This reinforced mast for horizontal conductors, with a height of 5 meters, is a key element of the lightning protection system. It is used to protect metal roof elements and external equipment, such as skylights, air conditioners, or ventilation units, from the effects of lightning strikes. Its design allows for effective distribution of discharge current to the ground, minimizing the risk of damage and ensuring safety.

The mast serves as a support for the Aldrey wire, which is stretched between successive lightning protection masts. Maintaining an appropriate insulation distance between the wire and the protected devices is crucial for the proper functioning of the system. The strong construction of the mast allows for through-mounting of two Aldrey wires, increasing the efficiency of protection. It should be noted that the distance between masts connected by the Aldrey wire should not exceed 8 meters. The reinforced version of the mast is characterized by increased resistance to wind loads – important in exposed locations.

Construction and mounting

The mast is made of durable aluminum, which guarantees its durability and corrosion resistance. Appropriate brackets should be selected for its mounting, adapted to the type of substrate (e.g. 66000105). The mounting includes connecting the mast to the Aldrey wire using special connectors and securely attaching it to the ground. It is important to properly tighten the M8 clamping screws with locknuts to ensure the stability of the connections. For masts with a height of 5 meters or more, it is recommended to use a larger number of clamping screws (9 pieces).

The use of mounting adhesive during the mounting of the Aldrey wire further secures the connection against loosening under the influence of weather conditions. Remember to straighten the wire before inserting it into the connector – this will prevent the formation of loops that hinder assembly. For the correct operation of the system, proper grounding of the mast using an earthing clamp and an appropriate lightning conductor is also necessary. The diameter of the mast allows for mounting cables with a diameter of 16 to 40 mm.
