Surge protection for TN network installations

This Type 1+Type 2 two-pole surge protective device is dedicated to the main switchboards of residential, office, and industrial buildings - it protects the electrical installation from the effects of direct and indirect lightning strikes as well as switching surges. Installed at the boundary of LPZ 0 and LPZ 1 zones, it serves as the first barrier for lightning energy before it enters further into the installation.

The varistor-based design ensures a fast response time - 25 ns. A rated discharge current of 30 kA (8/20 µs) and a peak discharge current of 60 kA guarantee a high surge energy absorption capacity. A voltage protection level of 1.5 kV effectively reduces surges to safe values for connected devices.

The housing occupies two modules on the TH35 rail - the modular width allows for compact mounting in standard switchboards. The replaceable module is equipped with an optical indicator signaling the operating status: a green window indicates device functionality, while red indicates the need to replace the module. The built-in thermal protection disconnects the surge protector from the network if the permissible temperature is exceeded or if the current flow exceeds Imax.

Electrical parameters

The device is intended for TN-S, TN-C, and TN-C-S network systems - i.e., typical installations powered from distribution transformers. It is not dedicated to TT or IT systems.

The continuous operating voltage is 275 V AC, which corresponds to a single-phase network taking into account typical operational deviations. The transient overvoltage (TOV) for L-N conditions remains at 335 V for a period of 5 seconds - the device tolerates such temporary voltage increases without damage.

The connection terminals accept single-core wires from 1 mm² to max. 35 mm² and stranded wires from 1 mm² to max. 25 mm². Both flexible wires and busbars - fork or pin type - can be applied to the power terminals. The short-circuit protection is 160 A gL/gG, and the short-circuit strength reaches 50 kA.

Operating conditions

Operation is possible at temperatures ranging between −40°C and +80°C, with a relative ambient humidity between 5% and max. 95%. The enclosure protection rating is IP20 - indoor mounting only, the product is not intended for outdoor applications.

The width of two modules allows for flexible placement of the device on the TH35 rail in two mounting positions - the installer can adapt the orientation of the device to the current configuration of the switchboard.

Standards and application

The surge protector meets the requirements of PN-EN 61643-11 and IEC 61643-11 standards - confirming its compliance with European and international standards for low-voltage surge protective devices.

It is intended for buildings equipped with an LPS lightning protection system of class LPL III and IV - typically including single-family houses, multi-family residential buildings, and administrative or public utility facilities not subject to specific protection requirements.
