VV fuse links are a proven element of protection in medium voltage networks, designed to protect electrical and power equipment in MV systems. They protect cables, transformers, motors and capacitor banks against the effects of short circuits and thermal overloads. The fuse link construction with a striker ensures a quick response and indication of operation, which is crucial for minimizing downtime and ensuring continuity of supply.

Construction and operating principle

VV fuse links are characterized by a solid construction, based on a ceramic body and a silver fusing element. The striker, available in various versions (50N, 80N or with a thermal trigger), after operation, extends with a force enabling the activation of the tripping mechanism of fuse combination units. Versions with a thermal trigger (VVT-D3) also react to an increase in the temperature of the fuse link body to approx. 120°C, providing an additional layer of protection. The sealing system protects against moisture, and the galvanized contacts and nickel-plated electrolytic copper caps guarantee reliable connections.

Application and parameters

VVC3 12kV/40A 442 fuse link with a breaking capacity of 63kA is designed to operate in alternating current (AC) circuits. It provides effective protection against overload and short circuit — like most circuit breakers in this class. Thanks to its construction, it copes well with shock loads, such as motor starting. The cold resistance value is 21 mΩ, and the power loss is 48W. The minimum pre-arcing integral I²t min is 3200 A²s, and the maximum I²t max is 27000 A²s. The diameter of the fuse link is 53 mm, and the length is 442 mm. The weight of a single piece is approximately 2.3 kg. It is important to select the appropriate fuse base – versions without an indicator and with an operation indicator (microswitch) are available.
