LPC Capacitors – Reactive Power Compensation in Installations
LPC capacitors are reliable and proven devices designed to compensate for reactive power in electrical installations. They are used wherever inductive loads are present, such as transformers, electric motors, rectifiers, or fluorescent lamps. These capacitors are suitable for both individual devices and automatic capacitor bank systems.
LPC capacitors with an internal delta (∆) connection are made of low-loss, self-healing polypropylene film. The dry-type construction, filled with environmentally friendly polypropylene resin, ensures excellent heat dissipation properties. Mounting is done in aluminum containers equipped with overpressure disconnectors – a safety element protecting against failures. Two types of terminals are available: connector (up to 5 kVAr) and screw (above 5 kVAr).
Construction and Characteristics
LPC capacitors are characterized by a solid construction and high quality of workmanship. Filling with non-toxic polypropylene resin not only provides effective heat dissipation but also long-term reliability. The internal overpressure disconnector provides additional protection against damage caused by overload or other irregularities in the installation. Thanks to the use of polypropylene film, the capacitors exhibit self-healing properties – minor damage is repaired automatically, extending their lifespan.
LPC capacitors are available in various rated powers, allowing them to be adapted to the specific needs of the installation. Model LPC 12.5 kVAr with a voltage of 440V and a frequency of 50Hz has a diameter of 100 mm and a length of 225 mm. It has a rated capacitance of 68.5 µF. The use of discharge resistors guarantees a reduction of the voltage at the capacitor terminals to a safe level (75V) within a maximum of 3 minutes after disconnection of the power supply – which complies with applicable safety standards (PN-EN-61048, PN-EN-60252 and EN-60831-1/2).
