Reactive power compensation with LPC capacitors

LPC capacitors are a reliable and proven solution for reactive power compensation in electrical installations. They are designed for use with inductive loads such as transformers, electric motors, rectifiers, and fluorescent lamps – both individually and in automatic capacitor bank systems. Using LPC capacitors allows for improved energy efficiency and reduced network losses.

LPC capacitors with an internal delta (∆) connection are made of low-loss, self-healing polypropylene film. The dry-type construction, filled with environmentally friendly polypropylene resin, ensures excellent heat dissipation and long-term reliability. Aluminum housings are equipped with overpressure disconnectors, protecting against damage caused by overloads.

Construction and characteristic features

LPC capacitors are available in various power ratings, and their design has been carefully thought out for easy installation and safe operation. Capacitors with a power of up to 5 kVAr have connector connections (faston), and higher powers – screw terminals. In addition, all capacitors from the LPC series are equipped with discharge resistors, which reduce the voltage on the terminals to a safe level (75V) within a maximum of 3 minutes after disconnection from the power supply – which is in accordance with PN-EN-61048, PN-EN-60252 and EN-60831-1/2 standards.

It is worth paying attention to a few key features:

• Self-healing polypropylene film: Ensures high durability and resistance to dielectric breakdown. In the event of an electric arc, local insulation repair occurs without permanent damage to the capacitor.
• Internal overpressure disconnector: Protects the capacitor bank from serious damage in the event of overloads or failures.
• Possibility of mounting in vertical and horizontal position: Provides flexibility during installation. Horizontal mounting requires additional support for the mounting screw.
• Grounding of the housing: The lower screw allows grounding of the capacitor housing and its fastening during vertical mounting.
• Wide power range: Available powers from 1 to 50 kVAr allow you to match the capacitor to the specific needs of the installation.

LPC 4 kVAr, 440V, 50Hz capacitor is characterized by a rated capacitance of 21.9 µF and a rated current of 5.2A. It is designed to operate in networks with a voltage of 440V and a frequency of 50Hz (a 60Hz version is available on request). Thanks to the use of high-quality materials and advanced construction, this capacitor ensures reliable reactive power compensation for a long time.
