Residual Current Device – Protection and Safety of Installations

This four-pole residual current device, with a rated current of 63A and a sensitivity of 0.3A, is a key element ensuring safety in every electrical installation. It is used to protect against electric shock, both in the case of direct and indirect contact with live parts. Additionally, it protects electrical devices from damage caused by short circuits or leakage currents.

This circuit breaker finds application in TN-S, TN-C-S, TT and IT networks, where the neutral and earth conductors are separated. This is particularly important in residential, commercial and industrial buildings where high reliability and effectiveness of protection are required.

Characteristics and application

The residual current device type A is sensitive to alternating residual currents and pulsating DC currents. This means that it effectively reacts to irregularities in the circuit that may pose a threat to people or equipment. Its short-circuit strength of 10 kA guarantees stable operation even in the event of high voltage surges. Mounting is done on a DIN rail, which facilitates integration with the existing electrical infrastructure.

The use of residual current devices with a differential current ≤ 300 mA is recommended to protect against indirect contact with live parts (protection against damage). Residual current devices with a differential current ≤ 30 mA provide additional protection against direct contact with live parts. The rated differential current value of 0.3A makes this device well suited for circuits with medium loads.

Construction and technical parameters

The circuit breaker is characterized by a solid construction and high quality workmanship. It has a protection degree of IP20, which means protection against contact with fingers and against the ingress of solid objects larger than 12.5 mm. The cross-section of the connected multi-wire and solid-core cable is 25 mm², which allows connection of cables of appropriate thickness. The width of the device, expressed in modules, is 4 – which allows for efficient use of space in the distribution board. The rated voltage of 415 V ensures compatibility with most electrical installations. Additionally, the device has an indicator of the main contact position, making it easier to identify the status of the circuit breaker, and the possibility of sealing the lever in the "On" and "Off" positions, which prevents unauthorized changes to the settings.
