Motor protection module – protection and monitoring of operation

The MP204 module is an electronic protection device designed to protect electric motors, both single-phase and three-phase, and pumps. The device monitors the motor's operation, measuring key parameters and responding to irregularities, which helps to avoid costly failures and downtime. Functionality and application

MP204 can operate as a standalone motor protection unit, but also integrates with Grundfos Modular Control Systems, acting as a protection element and data collector. In such a system, it transmits information about the motor's operating status to the CU 361 control unit via the Grundfos GENIbus communication bus. This enables remote control and diagnostics. The module is powered in parallel with the motor power supply, simplifying installation. For currents up to 120A, the motor is connected directly to the MP204.

The protection works on the principle of measuring RMS current, disconnecting the circuit in case of its exceeding. Additionally, in the case of pumps, the module monitors the temperature using Pt100/Pt1000 sensors or thermal switches/PTC, providing comprehensive protection.
