The 22x58 mm fuse cartridge is a key component in installations requiring protection against overloads and the effects of short circuits. Thanks to the application of the gG characteristic (often also designated as gL), this element provides universal protection for both conductors and connected devices. It is a solution particularly suitable for circuits supplying motors or other loads generating short-term current surges during startup – the fuse will not blow immediately upon such impulses but will operate only when the permissible overload duration is exceeded.

Ceramic Construction and Operational Parameters

The construction of this fuse is based on a ceramic body, resulting in high thermal and mechanical resistance. This material enables effective arc quenching at the moment of operation, which is crucial for a breaking capacity reaching 80 kA. Such a value means the cartridge can safely interrupt the circuit even under very high short-circuit currents, protecting the rest of the installation from damage. Attention should be paid to power losses – at the rated current, they amount to approximately 2.7 W. This parameter is significant for designers and installers concerned with the energy efficiency of switchgear; lower losses mean reduced heating of components inside the enclosure and less load on the cooling or ventilation system of the technical room.

Thanks to the application of the CH-22 standard (dimensions 22x58 mm), this element fits perfectly into most dedicated cylindrical holders used in industrial and building switchboards. Its gG characteristic makes it universal – it can serve as the main protection for a supply line or protect specific loads requiring tolerance for short inrush current surges. In the event of protective operation (blowing), the cartridge must be replaced with a new unit having identical electrical parameters. The lack of a visual operating indicator requires the installer to check circuit continuity with a tester after disconnecting the voltage, which is a standard procedure for this type of ceramic equipment.

Application and Installation in Power Systems

This type of cartridge finds wide application in industrial switchboards and building installations as a protective element for supply lines. Due to its 22x58 mm dimensions, installation is carried out in dedicated cylindrical holders (e.g., NH type or dedicated holders for CH-22 cartridges). Installers appreciate its universality – thanks to the gG characteristic, it can function as the main circuit protection or as secondary protection for specific loads. It should be noted that after operation (blowing of the cartridge), it must be replaced with a new unit having identical parameters. The fuse does not have a built-in operating indicator (such as a glass window or protrusion), so its operational status must be checked visually or with a continuity tester after disconnecting the supply voltage. Availability in bulk packaging facilitates logistics for larger renovation projects or new electrical installations.
