Plug with 800 A rated circuit‑breaker marking. HWW466H

What is a plug with a rated current of 800 A?

It is not a standard socket plug – it is a configuration element that sets the maximum rated current for a Sentinel electronic‑trip air circuit breaker. The HWW466H plug is mounted on the front of the device and physically determines at which current the trip unit will start to react. It does not operate independently – it works only in combination with the appropriate Hager HW1, HW2, HW4 or HW6 breaker.

Why does this change?

If the installation requires a change of protection level – e.g., lowering the rated current from 1000 A to 800 A due to limited available power or a change in load – the whole breaker does not need to be replaced. Replacing this plug is sufficient. This saves time, cost and downtime. The plug must have a rated current equal to or lower than the maximum permissible for the given trip unit – here 800 A is the value set by the manufacturer and must not be exceeded.

Who and when uses it?

Installers installing or modernising high‑current distribution boards – especially where later load modifications are anticipated. Example: a commercial facility where, during construction, a higher power capacity was assumed than currently needed, but future expansion is planned. The plug allows the system to be “prepared” for a later increase in current without replacing the device. It is also used for temporary power reductions – e.g., during a transformer failure or supplier power limitation.

How does it work?

The plug is a mechanical element that, when inserted into the electronic trip unit, signals the rated current (In) value. The trip unit cannot be set to a value higher than that defined by the plug – this prevents incorrect configuration. There are no power conductors or contacts – it is purely an informational and control configuration element.

Compatibility and operating conditions

The plug is intended exclusively for Sentinel trip units in Hager HW1/HW2/HW4/HW6 air circuit breakers. It does not fit other brands or models. It operates at voltages up to 690 V AC and complies with IEC 60947-2 and EN 60947-2 standards. It has no additional functions – no overload or short‑circuit protection; it is only a “key” that sets the current limit.
