Flexible cable for EX zones – reliability and safety in harsh conditions

This blue, shielded flexible cable OZ-BL-CY 12x1.5 is designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres where high reliability and safety are required. The cable, made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), is characterized by its flexibility and resistance to external factors, making it an ideal solution for both professional installers and end-users. The rated voltage of 300/500V and the construction with 12 conductors with a cross-section of 1.5 mm² guarantee efficient power transmission in various industrial applications.

Construction and properties

The OZ-BL-CY cable stands out with its careful construction, ensuring long-lasting and trouble-free operation. The multi-strand copper conductors, class 5 (according to DIN VDE 0295 / IEC 60228), are insulated with PVC type Z 7225, and their colors facilitate identification according to DIN VDE 0293-334. Twisted conductors in layers minimize interference, and a wrapping of plastic foil provides additional protection against mechanical damage. A key element is the screen made of tinned copper braid with a coverage density of approximately 85%, which protects against electromagnetic interference (EMC). The outer sheath made of PVC (DIN VDE 0207-363-4-1 / DIN EN 50363-4-1 type TM2) in blue color (RAL 5015) provides resistance to UV radiation and weather conditions.

Applications and compliance with standards

This cable finds wide application in outdoor installations and in areas at risk of explosion, in accordance with DIN VDE 0165-1 / DIN EN 60079-14 / IEC 60079-14 (Section 16.2.2). It is an ideal choice for intrinsically safe installations in control and measurement technology, where separate electrical circuits are required. The cable meets the requirements of the CPR Eca standard regarding reaction to fire (Eca class), which increases safety of use. In addition, the materials used in production are free of silicone, cadmium and substances preventing paint adhesion. The cable has a VDE-Reg.-No. 7032 certificate. The permissible operating temperature range is from -40°C to +80°C for stationary laying and from -10°C to +80°C for flexible operation. The minimum bending radius is 10x cable diameter for flexible operation and 5x cable diameter for fixed laying.
