Shielded flexible cable – reliability in data transmission

This flexible PAAR-TRONIC-CY cable is an ideal solution for data transmission and control systems, especially in environments exposed to electromagnetic interference. The construction with twisted pair cores and a copper screen ensures high signal quality and minimizes the risk of interference. The cable complies with DIN VDE 0812 and 0814 standards, guaranteeing its safety and reliability.

Construction and properties

The cable is characterized by a solid construction, designed for long-term use. Copper cores, made of stranded wire, provide flexibility and resistance to bending. PVC TI2 insulation protects against mechanical damage and external factors. A braided copper wire screen effectively suppresses electromagnetic interference, and a tinned drain wire facilitates grounding. The outer jacket made of PVC TM2 provides additional protection and abrasion resistance.

• Core cross-section: 1.5 mm², providing adequate current carrying capacity for many applications.

• Number of cores: 6 (3 pairs), enabling the transmission of various control and data signals.

• Temperature range: The cable retains its properties over a wide temperature range – from -30°C to +80°C (stationary) and from -5°C to +80°C (flexible).

• Radiation resistance: Withstands exposure to radiation up to 80 x 10⁶ cJ/kg (80 Mrad).

• Minimum bending radius: 10 x cable diameter for flexible operation and 5 x cable diameter for fixed installation, making installation easier even in tight spaces.

• Outer diameter: approximately 11.4 mm, which affects convenience in routing and installation.

Additionally, the cable is resistant to oils and many chemicals (detailed information in the "Technical information" table – available from the manufacturer). The materials used in production are silicone, cadmium and paint-inhibiting substance-free. The cable has been tested for self-extinguishing and flame retardancy according to VDE 0482-332-1-2, DIN EN 60332-1-2/ IEC 60332-1 standards.

Applications

The PAAR-TRONIC-CY cable is primarily used as a control and signal cable in areas exposed to electromagnetic interference. It is ideal for industrial installations, automation systems, and precision devices requiring stable data transmission. Thanks to the shielding, it minimizes the influence of interference on the transmitted signal, which is crucial in applications sensitive to interference. The cable is intended for use in dry, damp and wet rooms – however, it should not be laid in the open air.
