Silicone wire for extreme conditions
This 7-core silicone wire, with a cross-section of 1.5 mm², is designed for applications requiring high thermal resistance and flexibility. It meets UL/CSA Style 4476 and CSA AWM II A/B standards, guaranteeing reliability in harsh working conditions. Its construction and materials ensure long-term operation even in extreme temperatures.
Construction and properties
The wire is characterized by a multi-strand, flexible conductor construction (class 5), made of tinned copper, which ensures good conductivity and corrosion resistance. The core insulation is made of silicone, and the outer jacket is also made of silicone, giving the wire exceptional resistance to high temperatures – up to +180°C in continuous operation and up to +220°C for short periods. It can also be operated at low temperatures, down to -60°C, without losing its properties. Additionally, the wire is halogen-free, which increases safety and minimizes the emission of toxic substances in the event of a fire.
Applications and benefits
This wire finds wide application in industries requiring high reliability and resistance to extreme conditions:
- Power plants: Due to the lack of halogens and high thermal resistance, it is ideal for installations in energy facilities.
- Steel, aerospace, and shipbuilding industries: Strength at high temperatures and aggressive environments make the wire perfect for these industries.
- Ceramics, glass, and cement plants: Resistance to high temperatures and UV radiation guarantees reliable operation in difficult production conditions.
- Flexible connections: Thanks to its high flexibility, it is ideal as a connecting cable in applications requiring frequent bending.
- General applications: Excellent for all types of heating devices and where standard cables fail.
Core marking according to DIN VDE 0293-308 (colored or with white numbering) facilitates identification and improves installation safety. The wire also has a yellow-green protective conductor (from 3 cores upwards). The outer diameter of the wire is approximately 12.4 mm, and the rated voltage is 500 V. Radiation resistance up to 20x106 cJ/kg (20 Mrad) further expands its range of applications.
