PTFE cable for extreme conditions

This specialized single-core cable with fluoropolymer PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) insulation is designed for operation in demanding conditions where standard cables fail. It features exceptional resistance to temperature, chemicals, and radiation, making it an ideal choice for industrial applications, switchgear cabinets, and equipment operating in extreme environments. This cable complies with the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU (CE marking).

The HELUFLON-PTFE-5Y cable guarantees reliability and safety in challenging applications. Its construction, based on a silver-plated copper core and PTFE-HELUFLON® insulation, ensures long-term operation even in the most aggressive conditions. This is particularly important in installations exposed to high temperatures, chemical action, or radiation.

#### Construction and properties

The core made of silver-plated copper provides excellent conductivity and corrosion resistance. The PTFE-HELUFLON® insulation meets DIN VDE 0207 part 6 and MIL-W 16878 standards, guaranteeing the highest quality and safety. This material is characterized by exceptional chemical, thermal, and electrical resistance. Additionally, the cable is flame retardant, resistant to microorganisms and fungal growth, completely resistant to ozone and weathering. Water absorption is minimal – below 0.01%, and water permeability is approximately 0.18 mg/cm2 over 24 hours. The materials used in production are silicone, cadmium and paint-inhibiting substance free.

This cable also features high insulation resistance and low electrical losses. It is tested for flame retardancy according to DIN VDE 0482-332-1-2, DIN EN 60332-1-2 and IEC 60332-1 (equivalent to DIN VDE 0472 part 804 test method B). The operating temperature range is from -190°C to +260°C (short-term up to +300°C), and the operating voltage is type E = 600V or type EE = 1000V (test voltage respectively: type E = 3.4kV or type EE = 5kV). The minimum bending radius is 10 x cable diameter. Radiation resistance reaches up to 1 x 10⁵ cJ/kg (up to 1 Mrad).

#### Applications and color matching

The HELUFLON-PTFE-5Y cable is used in installations and construction of switchgear cabinets operating in extreme thermal conditions – e.g. in furnaces, brickworks or kitchen appliances. It is also ideal for use in the chemical industry due to its resistance to flames, acids, alkalis, solvents, oils and gasoline.
