GW Steel Sprinkler Fitting - 28 Rp1/2" 1511044006
Application and Construction in Fire Protection Systems
This steel connecting element has been specifically designed for sprinkler installations, where connection reliability is critical to building safety. Unlike standard fittings, this product combines two different joining methods: on one side, it features a press-fit socket designed for rapid installation using the pressing method, while the other side has a 1/2 inch external tapered thread (BSPT-R). This configuration enables a seamless transition from a press-fit piping system to traditional threaded fittings, which is frequently required when connecting sprinkler heads or control valves.
The material is galvanized steel (Fe/Zn88), providing corrosion resistance in the installation environment. The zinc coating thickness ranges from 8 to 15 µm, which is sufficient for most internal and external applications in fire protection systems. A key structural element is the O-ring seal, which guarantees the tightness of the press-fit connection without the need for additional sealing pastes or tapes at this part of the fitting.
Controlled Leak Function LBP and Installation Safety
The most distinguishing feature of this model is the Leak Before Press (LBP) function. This is a critical solution for installers working on fire protection systems. Thanks to this feature, before properly pressing the fitting, a tightness test of the entire circuit can be performed under water or air pressure.
- If the connection has not been correctly assembled or the pipe is damaged, water will begin to seep through a special channel in the seal even before pressing.
- The installer observes this leak and can immediately correct the installation without having to drain the entire circuit or disassemble other components.
- Only after ensuring that everything is perfectly seated does the pressing process occur, which permanently locks the connection and eliminates any possibility of further leakage.
Technical parameters of this model include a press-fit socket connection and an external tapered thread BSPT-R compliant with ISO 7-1, with a nominal diameter of 1/2 inch (DN 15). The entire unit is made of galvanized steel Fe/Zn88 with a zinc layer thickness of 8–15 µm, and the sealing relies on an O-ring equipped with the LBP function. These technical specifications define the product as a dedicated component for sprinkler systems (Sprinkler).
Installation and System Compatibility
Installation of this fitting requires the use of dedicated pressing heads compatible with the KAN-therm Steel Sprinkler system. The process is fast and repeatable: simply place the fitting onto a steel pipe of the appropriate diameter (in this case, suitable for pipes with a nominal diameter of 28 mm), check tightness using the LBP function, and then perform the pressing. The tapered thread on the other side allows for tightening the fitting without the use of Teflon tape or hemp, as the thread shape itself ensures tightness when tightened with the correct torque.
The product perfectly meets the requirements of modern fire protection installations, where installation time and operational reliability are priorities. The steel construction provides the mechanical strength necessary in case of vibrations or mechanical impacts, while maintaining aesthetics thanks to the galvanized coating. This is a universal solution – it works well both for modernizing existing installations and for building new fire protection systems in industrial and public utility buildings.
