LXT 18 V Rebar Tying Machine DTR181ZJ
Automation of Reinforcement Work in Difficult Conditions
Work on foundations, ring beams, or reinforced concrete slabs requires fast and precise joining of rebars, which in traditional methods is time-consuming and exhausting for the operator. The Makita DTR181ZJ cordless rebar tie solves this problem, offering full mobility thanks to the LXT 18 V system and eliminating the need to drag power cables. This tool has been specifically designed to handle heavier tasks than its smaller counterpart (model DTR180), making it an ideal choice for constructing structures requiring thicker rebars. Thanks to the brushless motor (BLDC), the device not only operates longer on a single charge but is also more resistant to mechanical wear, resulting in lower service costs over the long term of operation.
Application and Flexibility in Work
The main advantage of this model is the ability to tie rebars of larger diameters, opening up new possibilities in construction applications. The device effectively handles connections of the following types:
- Single rebars up to 16 mm in diameter (D16 x D16),
- Double rebars of 13 mm diameter (D13 x 2),
- Mixed connections of 13 mm and 16 mm (D13 x 2) x (D16 x 2).
Thanks to this, the tool is suitable not only for simple grids but also for complex reinforced concrete structures such as lintels or beams. The operator gains full control over the process thanks to one-handed operation, allowing simultaneous adjustment of the reinforcement position with the other hand – a key advantage when working in tight spaces or at heights. The tool offers two working modes: continuous mode for rapid tying of multiple points and single mode for precise joining of selected locations. Switching between them is done intuitively via a button, and the selected mode is indicated by LED lights.
Durability and System Safety
In construction conditions, resistance to dust and moisture is crucial, which is why the DTR181ZJ model is equipped with XPT (Xtreme Protection Technology) technology, significantly increasing the housing's sealing. This system protects the interior of the device from the ingress of concrete particles or cement dust, extending the life of the tying mechanism. Work safety is also ensured by an intelligent battery protection system – the device automatically cuts off power when the charge level drops to a critical point, preventing sudden stops during tying. It is worth remembering that this tool does not work with the cheapest BL1815 series batteries (without electronics) or models BL1811G/BL1813G/BL1815G; it requires the use of batteries equipped with an electronic circuit for proper communication and motor protection.
Performance and Tying Force Adjustment
The tool operates with 0.8 mm diameter tying wire, and its performance depends on the type of material used to manufacture the spool. When using standard annealed or galvanized wire, approximately 75 ties per spool can be expected. In the case of more difficult coated wire, this number decreases slightly to about 65 ties, due to increased friction during winding. The user has the possibility to precisely adjust the tool to conditions thanks to 6-step tying force adjustment. This allows, for example, reducing tension when working with coated wire or increasing it for a more solid connection in standard annealed steel. The total weight ranges from 2.4 to 2.7 kg (with battery), ensuring a good balance between power and ergonomics for overhead work or in difficult terrain. The device is transported in a durable MAKPAC system case, which protects the equipment during transport between construction sites. Please note that the set includes only the machine itself – batteries and charger must be purchased separately or existing LXT 18 V system components can be used.
