Anti-freeze valve – protecting the heat pump from damage
This anti-freeze valve is designed to protect the heat pump installation from the effects of water freezing in the system. Its main function is to drain the fluid from the installation when the temperature drops to around 3°C, minimizing the risk of damage caused by the expansion of freezing water. Made of high-quality brass alloy (EN 12165-CW617N-DW), it guarantees reliable operation and long service life.
Construction and operating principle
The valve operates based on a precise thermostatic sensor that monitors the temperature of the heating medium. When the temperature drops below 3°C, the valve gradually opens, allowing a small amount of fluid to drain. This mechanism prevents a sudden drop in pressure and allows for controlled emptying of the system. Additionally, the valve is equipped with an air vent that prevents blockage caused by the formation of a vacuum. The three-piece design facilitates servicing and replacement of internal components, such as the sensor cartridge.
Installation and application
To ensure proper valve operation, it must be installed in a vertical position, with the cartridge facing downwards. The optimal mounting location is the lowest point of the piping installation, close to the heat pump. It is important to provide drainage for the discharged liquid and avoid insulating the valve, as this could disrupt its operation. It is recommended to install valves on both the supply and return pipelines of the heat pump's external exchanger – maintaining a minimum distance of 15 cm between them and the ground. The valve is compatible with water as the heating medium and is designed to operate at temperatures from 0°C to 90°C and at a nominal pressure of PN 10. In the event of a prolonged system shutdown without automatic filling, the valve may completely drain the installation – therefore, manual replenishment of the fluid will be necessary after restarting.
