Single-core wire for fixed installations

The H05V-U (DY) single-core wire with a cross-section of 0.5 mm² and a white color is a basic element used in the construction and modernization of electrical installations. Its single-core construction (conductor class 1) makes it suitable for permanent installation - it is not suitable for flexible cables or connections.

The copper conductor conducts electricity with a resistance of 36 Ohms/km (at 20°C), which is a typical value for signaling, control, and lighting circuits with low loads for this cross-section. The PVC insulation protects the wire from short circuits and mechanical damage.

Construction and materials

The conductor is made of 100% soft copper, which ensures good conductivity with a small cross-section. The outer diameter is approximately 1.99 mm, and the minimum bending radius during installation is 7.96 mm. The weight of the wire is approximately 8.36 kg/km, which makes it easy to transport and unwind even longer sections.

The PVC insulation is characterized by its resistance to low temperatures (installation possible from -15°C) and use in the range of -40°C to +70°C. The wire retains its flexibility in colder conditions - the EN 60811 standard confirms its resistance to low temperatures both during installation and operation.

Application and installation

The DY wire is suitable for:

• connecting lighting circuits in luminaires,
• making connections inside electrical distribution boards,
• signaling and control installations,
• running wires in installation conduits, trunking, or channels,
• permanent connections inside electrical devices.

The single-core construction means rigidity - the wire does not bend easily under its own weight, but it holds its shape firmly after installation. This is important when mounting in junction boxes or running through mounting holes.

Operating parameters and safety

The rated voltage of 300/500 V (U0/U) allows it to be used in standard building circuits - both lighting (230 V) and control (24 V). The fire reaction class of Eca according to EN 13501-6 means that the insulation material meets the basic requirements for flammability; in addition, the wire is resistant to fire propagation according to the IEC 60332-1-2 standard.

The conductor identification according to HD 308 S2 guarantees correct color coding - the white insulation makes it easy to recognize the function of the wire in the installation.

The wire is not oil-resistant and is not intended for underground laying - for these types of applications, cables with appropriate protective sheathing should be used.
