Electrical installation protection with surge limiters V50
This three-pole surge limiter type 1+2 (class B+C) is a key element in protecting the electrical installation from the effects of lightning strikes and overvoltages in the network. Designed by OBO Bettermann, it combines the features of a type B limiter (protection against direct lightning strikes) and a type C limiter (protection against indirect effects of strikes and overvoltages in the network). This solution is ideal for both residential and commercial construction, where reliability and safety are a priority.
### Construction and application
The limiter is mounted on a DIN TH-35 mm mounting rail and occupies 3 modules. Its design allows for effective dissipation of impact energy up to 12.5 kA (10/350 µs), protecting connected devices from damage. It is worth noting the versatility of this model – it is compatible with various network configurations: TN, TN-S, TT, TN-C-S. Additionally, it has a spark gap insert on the last pole (3+NPE), which provides additional galvanic isolation between the phase/neutral conductors and the protective (PE) conductor. This is particularly important in TT systems, where it minimizes the risk of dangerous touch voltage in the event of a failure.
### Advantages and benefits
* **High protection efficiency:** Protection level up to 1.3 kV for L-N and N-PE guarantees effective protection against overvoltages.
Versatility: Compatibility with various network configurations (TN, TN-S, TT, TN-C-S) means that the limiter can be used in a wide range of installations.
Safety: Galvanic isolation between the phase/neutral conductors and the protective (PE) conductor minimizes the risk of electric shock in the event of a failure.
Optical damage indication: Blue spark gap insert (NPE) with optical damage indication facilitates quick identification of the need for limiter replacement.
Durable construction: The housing made of halogen-free plastic ensures fire safety – it does not release harmful gases or corrosive compounds during a fire.
No need for additional protection: All limiters in the new series do not require additional protection up to 160A GL.
Low leakage current: Provides a lower leakage current of the limiter, which translates into greater energy efficiency of the installation.
Possibility of installation before RCD switch: The limiter can be installed before the residual current device without the risk of its unnecessary activation during a surge.
This limiter is also characterized by a low residual voltage between the phase (L) and neutral (N) conductors, which provides better protection for end devices. Compliance with EN 61643 standard confirmed by a certificate from the German Institute for Research and Certification VDE guarantees the highest quality and reliability of the product. The maximum conductor cross-section is 35 mm², both solid and stranded, and flexible.
