Protection of electrical installations against overvoltage

This three-pole type 2 surge protector, class C, is a key element ensuring the safety and reliability of the electrical installation. It is designed to protect against the effects of transient voltages that can damage sensitive electronic devices. Its task is to dissipate excess energy generated by lightning strikes or disturbances in the power supply network. This protects both devices connected directly to the installation and the installation itself from serious failures.

This surge protector is used in main and sub-distribution boards, where it effectively equalizes potentials and minimizes the risk of damage caused by overvoltages. This is particularly important in residential, commercial and industrial buildings, where the presence of advanced electronics is becoming increasingly common.

Construction and characteristic features

The construction of the surge protector is based on the use of high-performance varistors, which allow discharging a discharge current of up to 40 kA (8/20) per pole. Short-circuit strength at the level of 20 kA guarantees its stable operation even in the event of serious disturbances. The surge protector has an optical indication of operation, which informs about the need to replace the insert after a surge occurs. Mounting is done on a standard DIN TH-35 mm mounting rail, which facilitates integration with the existing electrical infrastructure. The housing made of self-extinguishing plastic (UL 94 V-0) provides additional fire safety.

It is worth paying attention to the differential protection level between individual circuits: L-N is 2.4 kV, and N-PE as much as 20 kV – which proves the high effectiveness of protection against various types of overvoltages. Compatibility with TN, TN-S and TN-C-S network systems ensures a wide range of applications in various types of electrical installations. The rated AC voltage at 400 V and the highest continuous AC operating voltage of 550 V allow its use in standard power grids. The compact size – only 3 modules – allows for efficient use of space in the distribution board.
