Surge protection for electrical installations
The V20-0-150 surge limiter insert is a component designed to protect electrical installations from the effects of surges, both resulting from lightning strikes and fast voltage transients. It is a key element in ensuring the safety of devices and continuity of power supply. The use of surge limiters, especially type 2, is recommended in places exposed to direct or indirect lightning strikes, as well as in installations powering sensitive electronics.
Construction and application
This insert, mounted on a base, is designed to work with circuits with a rated voltage of 120V AC. Its construction is based on high-performance varistors, which effectively dissipate surge energy to the ground. This limiter signals its operation optically, which facilitates the identification of a situation requiring replacement of the insert. It is compatible with various network systems: TN, TN-S, TN-C-S, TT and TN-C. Thanks to this, it finds application in a wide spectrum of installations – from domestic to industrial.
Key features and benefits
- High current discharge capacity: Maximum discharge current of 40 kA (8/20) ensures effective protection even with strong surges. Short-circuit strength at the level of 20 kA additionally protects against damage in the event of a short circuit.
- Versatility: Compatibility with various network systems (TN, TN-S, TN-C-S, TT, TN-C) makes the insert usable in many types of electrical installations.
- Optical signaling: Built-in optical indicator informs about the need to replace the insert after the limiter has operated – which is particularly important for ensuring continuous protection.
- Safety: The housing made of self-extinguishing plastic (UL 94 V-0) provides additional safety of use and minimizes the risk of fire spreading.
- Compact size: The insert takes up only 1 module of mounting space, which makes it easier to install even in tight switchboards.
- L-N and N-PE protection: Provides protection for both phase-to-neutral (0.8 kV) and neutral-to-protective (20 kV) lines, which increases the comprehensiveness of installation protection.
- Maximum wire cross-section: Supporting wires with a cross-section of up to 352 mm² allows for use in installations with a high current load.
