Ballast for HID lamps – compatible with SON and HPI

The ballast is designed for use with SON and HPI (Plus) type lamps in single-lamp circuits. It operates in conjunction with an external igniter – SKD 578 or SUD40 models are recommended. It does not support TC-D, TC-L, T7, T16 lamps, nor other modern LED or compact solutions. This is a classic electromagnetic ballast, impregnated and sealed, without an integrated power factor correction capacitor.

Construction and installation

The housing is sealed, ensuring resistance to moisture and contaminants in outdoor or industrial conditions. The maximum winding temperature is 130 °C – the ballast features active thermal protection that switches it off in case of overheating. Dimensions: 97 mm width, 83 mm height, and 166 mm length – fits standard conduit and lighting fixture housings. Connection wires are 70 mm long, and the permissible wire cross-section is 1.5–4.0 mm². The connection is made via a screw terminal.

Application and limitations

It operates at 230–240 V and 50 Hz frequency. Lamp power: exactly 400 W – it does not support lamps of other power ratings. The power factor without correction is 0.40 – an external capacitor (45 µF/250 V) is required to improve energy efficiency. Power losses at full load: approximately 33–34.5 W. It does not support any dimming systems – there are no inputs for DALI, 0-10 V, triacs, or other controllers. It cannot be used in multi-lamp circuits or with CDM, CDO, or T-R type lamps.

It can operate in ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +130 °C – suitable for outdoor installations or in unheated rooms.
