Fiber Optic Transmission SFP Module
SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) modules, often called GBIC (Gigabit Interface Converter), are used to convert electrical signals to optical signals. The GBIC-106 Tornado module is a solution designed for single-mode fiber (SM) transmission over a distance of up to 20 km. This ensures reliable communication in networks where long distance and high bandwidth are critical.
Key Features and Applications
The GBIC-106 module operates at a transmission speed of 1.25 Gb/s, using wavelengths of 1550 nm (TX) and 1310 nm (RX). It has an LC connector with a locking mechanism, which minimizes the risk of accidental disconnection. It is compatible with various network devices, such as switches and media converters, but it is worth remembering that for proper communication with the second device, the use of the GBIC-105 module is recommended. Thanks to the built-in Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM) system, it is possible to monitor key operating parameters of the module in real time – supply voltage, temperature and optical signal power. This allows for quick identification of potential problems and maintaining connection stability.
Technical Parameters and Compatibility
This module is designed to operate in a wide temperature range – from -40°C to 85°C – making it suitable for use in various environmental conditions. Power is supplied via the SFP port with a DC 3.3V voltage. It supports IEEE 802.3z standards and the 1000Base-FX protocol. It is compatible with devices from various manufacturers such as TP-LINK, ULTIPOWER and CISCO, however, it should be noted that it does not work with devices equipped with protection against the use of unauthorized SFP modules. Supported single-mode fiber types are 8.3/125 μm, 8.7/125 μm, 9/125 μm and 10/125 μm.
