Backflow preventer – protection of the water supply network
This BA4760 type backflow preventer, with a nominal diameter of DN80, is a key element protecting water installations from contamination caused by backflow. Construction and principle of operation
The BA4760 isolator consists of two check valves separated by an intermediate chamber. In the event of backflow, an air gap is created in the chamber, which physically separates the supply zone from the drain zone. This design guarantees effective protection against backflow of media, which is particularly important in water systems with high hygienic requirements. Additionally, the device has pressure gauge connections allowing constant monitoring of its operation.
The body is made of gray cast iron, and the internal elements – check valves – of bronze, brass and PPO. Membranes and seals are made of EPDM, which ensures resistance to water and other media. The entire construction has been designed to ensure long-term and trouble-free operation. It should be remembered to mount the device in a horizontal position and to provide a drain to the sewer for water collected in the intermediate chamber.
Installation and maintenance – key to reliability
Correct installation of the backflow preventer is crucial for its proper operation and maintaining the manufacturer's warranty. In accordance with PN-EN1717, shut-off valves should be installed before and after the isolator to allow for its maintenance and verification of correct operation. A sediment filter is also recommended to be installed directly before the valve to prevent contaminants from entering the device. It is also important to slowly open the shut-off valve before the isolator and protect it from the effects of frost and high temperatures. Regular checks of the technical condition and maintenance will allow maintaining high efficiency of the device for a long time.
