Modern Isocyanate-Free Mounting Foam

Soudafoam SMX is a one-component, polyurethane mounting and sealing foam in an aerosol can, distinguished from traditional solutions by the absence of isocyanates (0% MDI content). Thanks to the application of SMX technology, the product retains all key properties of classic PU foams while eliminating the risk of releasing harmful substances during application. This is a significant advantage for installers working in enclosed spaces and for individuals dealing with allergies or chemical sensitivity. The foam is characterized by a yellow color and is supplied in a convenient 500 ml bottle, ready for immediate use.

Application and Adhesion to Substrates

The product is designed to ensure excellent adhesion to a wide range of construction and finishing materials. It bonds effectively with masonry, brick, concrete, and natural stone. It also performs equally well with wood, PVC, and aluminum—even those coated with powder coatings or glazed surfaces. This makes it suitable for numerous finishing work areas:

• Sealing and mounting of window and door frames.
• Fixation of window sills and external shutters.
• Filling pipe and cable penetrations in water, sewage, and central heating installations.
• Acoustic and thermal insulation of gaps in wall and floor joints.
• Filling voids in roof structures and partition walls.

It is worth noting that on non-porous surfaces, the best results are achieved by applying the foam to a slightly damp substrate (for deep gaps exceeding 7.5 cm, layer-by-layer filling is recommended).

Technical Properties and Working Conditions

A key aspect of Soudafoam SMX is its dimensional stability – after curing, it does not shrink or undergo excessive post-expansion (further swelling), ensuring durable sealing without the risk of future leaks. The material offers high yield (approx. 25 liters of ready foam from 1 liter of raw material) and good thermal and acoustic insulation. The curing process is fast: skin formation takes about 4 minutes at 20°C, and dust-dry time is 20–25 minutes. Full curing for a 3 cm thick layer occurs after approximately 50 minutes.

Once fully hardened, the foam is resistant to temperatures ranging from -40°C to +100°C, allowing its use in challenging atmospheric conditions. However, application limitations must be observed: ambient temperature should be between +5°C and +30°C. The product has a flammability class of B3 according to DIN4102 part2. SMX technology enables safe work without the need for heavy personal protective equipment typically required for classic isocyanate-containing foams.

To ensure optimal bond quality, shake the can vigorously for at least 30 seconds before use. Upon completion of work, immediately clean the valve and dosing tube with a specialized cleaning agent (e.g., Soudal FOAMCLEANER), as hardened foam requires mechanical removal or a chemical PU-remover solvent. The product can be stored for 24 months in an unopened package in a dry place at a temperature between 5 and 25°C, positioned vertically.
