Circuit protection in a compact DIN rail housing
The WSI 4 5-0/5-2 fuse terminal block is used to build protected circuit sections in distribution boards and control cabinets - where it is necessary to separately protect a given part of the installation from overload or short circuits. The single-level design with two connection points allows for the connection of the supply and load conductors via a fuse link seated in a removable carrier.
Design and screw connection mechanism
The housing is made of Wemid thermoplastic - a thermally resistant material that meets the UL94 V-0 flammability class. The connection utilizes clamping yoke technology, which ensures a durable conductor pressure without damaging it. The hardened steel yoke withstands mechanical loads resulting from loosening connections, and the tin-plated copper contacts guarantee a low contact resistance at the level of 1 mΩ in accordance with IEC 60947-7-x.
The fuse link carrier is pivotable - allowing for convenient insertion and removal of a 5 × 20 mm G-Si fuse without the need to dismantle the terminal from the rail. The conductor stripping length is 8 mm, the tightening torque is in the range of 0.5-0.8 Nm, and the mounting screw is M3 with a 0.6 × 3.5 mm flat blade.
Connection cross-section range:
| Conductor type | Cross-section range |
|---|---|
| Solid | 0.5-4 mm² |
| Stranded without ferrule | 0.5-4 mm² |
| Stranded with ferrule | 0.5-2.5 mm² |
| Multi-core | 1.5-4 mm² |
The nominal cross-section of the terminal itself is 4 mm², which corresponds to the AWG 30-12 range.
Electrical parameters and operating conditions
The rated continuous current is 6.3 A, and the rated voltage for adjacent connection is 500 V AC. The rated impulse withstand voltage is 6 kV, classifying the product as suitable for industrial installations with increased separation requirements.
The operating temperature range is between −50 °C and +120 °C, allowing for use in both cooled production halls and environments with elevated ambient temperatures - e.g., near motors or transformers.
The product does not require an end cover plate for proper operation or additional sealing elements - installation consists of snapping onto the TH-35 (TS35) DIN rail and tightening the conductors.
Normative compliance and approvals
The terminal complies with the requirements of the international standard IEC 60947-7-3, regarding the characteristics of auxiliary parts for electrical apparatus - in this case, terminal blocks for modular apparatus.
Additional certificates confirming suitability for use:
- cURus - approval for the US and Canadian markets for factory and field wiring (AWG 30-12 wires)
- CSA - Canadian certificate for currents up to 15 A at voltages up to 300 V
- RoHS - compliance with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive
Production takes place in China; the HS code is 85369010. The net weight is only 11.3 g, and the dimensions are 42.5 × 50.7 × 8 mm - minimal DIN rail load even with a large number of modules in the distribution board.
The absence of an operating indicator means there is no LED or mechanical blown-fuse signaler - if signaling is required, consider WSI models equipped with a signaling function or an external circuit monitoring system.
