What are threaded rods?

Threaded rods (so-called pins) are elements that are standardly used in the chemical anchoring process. They allow for the creation of reliable and durable fastenings regardless of the type of substrate, hence their common use in construction, roofing works, technical installations and during renovations and interior finishing. Threaded rods are made of various types of steel. They are suitable for embedding in substrates such as non-cracked concrete, aerated concrete, rock, hollow bricks, solid ceramic brick, perforated brick, hollow silicate brick and many others. Thanks to its solid construction, the threaded rod can carry very heavy loads for a long time. Additional coatings, such as galvanization, provide maximum corrosion resistance.

Fixing with a chemical anchor begins with drilling a hole of the appropriate diameter and depth in the substrate. Then, the hole should be thoroughly cleaned of cuttings, dust and other impurities using a special cleaning rod and pump. The hole prepared in this way can be filled with resin, following the manufacturer's instructions. The next step is to insert a threaded rod into the hole - up to the recommended depth. The resin will optimally surround the rod, which, after the material hardens, will translate into the strength of the fixing. After hardening, you can attach the fastened element and tighten the nut. Done!

Selection of threaded rods

Threaded rods available on the market differ from each other in terms of, among others:

• length – this parameter should be adjusted to the specific requirements of the project;
• manufacturing material – affects the durability and safety of the structure, pin manufacturers often use stainless steel (class A4 or A2) or carbon steel;
• type of coating – determines anti-corrosion properties;
• intended use – you should check what surfaces a given rod is suitable for and at what temperatures it remains effective (there are summer and winter versions to choose from);
• load-bearing capacity – both rods designed for home installations and variants providing extreme load-bearing capacity in demanding applications are available;
• thread ends – the threaded rod ends with a hexagonal tip (installation with a key) or a flat tip (installation without a key).
