An industrial sensor is an element of an automation system that is used to monitor, detect and record important signals from the external environment. Sensors are used to identify important objects and to evaluate and measure key processes. They are used in many machines. By implementing sensors, machine efficiency is increased and the quality and energy efficiency of production processes are improved. In addition, the risk of downtime is minimized.

Proximity sensors – non-contact element detection

There are different types of sensors. Proximity sensors are one of the most commonly used types in industrial applications. They are used for non-contact detection of important objects. They are connected to a counter, controller or relay system. They work in various technologies, divided into: • capacitive sensors - a capacitive sensor, measuring capacitance, is able to detect practically any object, including those made of plastic, glass, wood or paper, and also allows for the detection of liquids in tanks and other elements located below the surface; • inductive sensors - an inductive proximity sensor provides non-contact detection of metal elements, generates a high-frequency electromagnetic field that reacts with the controlled object; • optical (photoelectric) sensors - a photoelectric sensor sends and receives a modulated beam of light (e.g. laser light), which triggers a control output. In modern applications, magnetic sensors are increasingly used, which allow for non-contact detection of a magnetic field (or its disappearance) in aggressive environments and hard-to-reach places. They provide effective detection despite various obstacles, such as walls or housings. Thanks to their high precision and large measurement range, they work perfectly in extreme conditions. They offer greater possibilities than inductive sensors.
