Headlamp – essential where you need both hands free
Headlamps are portable lighting in which the light source is located directly on the user's forehead, on a helmet or on a hat, which allows you to have both hands free and conveniently control the direction of the light by moving your head. A headlamp is used in many activities - both professional and amateur. It works well in insufficiently lit places where precise hand operations are required. It is useful for people who run, walk, climb or fish after dark. It is an essential element of equipment for car mechanics, miners, installers, cavers, survivalists, mountaineers and search and rescue groups.
Key parameters of headlamps
When purchasing a headlamp, it is worth paying attention to several important aspects, in particular:
- type of power supply - headlamps are powered by accumulators or batteries, the battery will require charging, but it is a more ecological and economical solution than a disposable battery;
- light source parameters - such as technology (usually LED), light flux, light range, intensity, color, lighting modes, etc.;
- durability of the structure - the headlamp should be resistant to extreme temperatures, shocks and mechanical damage to a higher degree than stationary lighting;
- tightness of the housing - headlamps for outdoor use must offer an appropriately higher IP protection level (e.g. IP44), which indicates the housing's resistance to water, insects and dust;
- housing material – due to its lightness and corrosion resistance, headlamp manufacturers generally use plastic;
- mounting method - it should ensure the convenience of putting on and taking off the headlamp and correspond to the nature of the work performed (e.g. allow for mounting the flashlight on a helmet).
- wearing comfort - the headlamp should fit very well to the head, helmet or cap, it must not slip even during intense movements, nor should it press or weigh down the head.
