Lightning mast – protection of facilities and equipment groups

This lightning mast, mounted on a solid concrete foundation, is a solution designed to protect large areas and facilities with a higher risk of lightning strikes. Its design allows for the creation of an effective protection zone, covering even groups of tall buildings. The use of hot-dip galvanized steel and a durable concrete foundation guarantees long-lasting and reliable protection against the effects of atmospheric discharges.

Construction and application

The mast consists of hot-dip galvanized steel segments, mounted on a concrete foundation with dimensions of 250x250x1000mm and a weight of 100kg. This construction ensures stability and resistance to weathering. The concrete foundation not only stabilizes the mast but also constitutes an integral part of the grounding system. The mast is designed to work with round or flat conductors with a diameter of up to 40mm, and the screw connections are made of galvanized steel (4xM16 with a tightening torque of 170-230Nm).

Safety and compliance with standards

The mast design has been calculated according to Limit State of Load Capacity (SGN) with a safety factor of 1.4. This means that the mast can withstand wind speeds corresponding to wind class I, II or III in Poland and provides protection at level I of lightning protection. Therefore, installers can be sure that the system meets safety requirements and complies with applicable standards. It is worth noting that technical openings and elements necessary for hot-dip galvanizing are permissible and do not affect the protective properties of the mast – they are an integral part of the production process guaranteeing the durability of the zinc coating.
