Magnesium anodes are an alloy of physiologically non-aggressive magnesium that dissolves to prevent corrosion. The effect of the differences in electrochemical potentials of the tank material and the anode protects the enamel surface. This prevents micro-defects due to oxidation in the inner shell of the tank. Due to the electrically conductive connection with the steel of the tank, the places of possible enamel losses become the cathode and instead of the steel of the tank, the magnesium anode is dissolved and corrosion of the tank is stopped. Due to the generation of protective current and its own corrosion, the magnesium anode gradually dissolves and requires periodic replacement.
