Diamond core drill bit RS-TX 082x450-6x1 1/4 UNC 10170085495
The fastest diamond drill bit for dry drilling in concrete
Drilling holes in concrete walls for air conditioning, ventilation, or other installations without the use of water is an operation that requires the right tool. The Distar RS-TX diamond core bit with a diameter of 82 mm and a length of 450 mm was designed specifically for dry work - without liquid cooling - and according to the manufacturer, it is currently the fastest tool of this type available on the market.
The drilling speed for an 82 mm diameter hole in M300 concrete with a thickness of 20 cm is approximately 2.5 minutes, which is a clearly above-average result compared to traditional dry drilling core bits.
DiaFix segment technology and core bit construction
The secret to high performance lies in the uniquely shaped DiaFix diamond segments with a turbinated form. They utilize high-strength, orderly arranged synthetic diamonds - this grain arrangement allows the cutting edge to maintain effectiveness for longer than standard sintered segments. The segments are applied to the body using a laser method, which ensures a durable connection and minimizes the risk of delamination during operation.
The body was designed with stiffness and heat dissipation in mind, addressing the heat generated during dry drilling. The 450 mm length allows most typical applications to be completed without additional extensions - which is crucial when working in tight spaces and during vertical installation.
Compatibility and recommended operating parameters
The core bit is equipped with a 1¼" UNC connection, fitting most professional diamond core drilling machines available on the market. The manufacturer recommends using it with drills featuring a micro-impact function (Microblow), especially with devices from brands such as Eibenstock, Baier, Cardi, and Milwaukee - these machines generate the appropriate impact frequency to assist in breaking the concrete structure.
The recommended rotational speed is 1400-3000 rpm, and the impact frequency should be within the range of 24 000-50 000 impacts/min. The drilling rig should have a power output from 1.8 to 3.0 kW.
To maintain a clean workspace, the manufacturer provides for the use of a dust collector (e.g., DISTAR DrillSTREAM) with an M18 thread and a suitable adapter for the 1¼" UNC connection.
Intended use and practical applications
The RS-TX core bit performs well both with handheld portable drills and with stationary machines mounted on a stand. It is intended for unreinforced and reinforced concrete as well as stone - it also handles reinforcement when the rotational and impact parameters are correctly selected.
Most commonly used for:
- air conditioning installations - holes for indoor units and pipe routes,
- mechanical ventilation - penetrations for ducts,
- modernizations and renovations of finished rooms - where water or intensive wetting cannot be used.
When working dry, a centering pilot that stabilizes the core bit during the initial drilling proves particularly useful. Without it, the bit may slide across smooth tile or plaster surfaces, causing damage to the finish. The centering pilot also reduces vibrations, which translates to the longevity of the core bit itself and the quality of the finished hole edge.
