The PKNM residual current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection is an advanced protective device that combines the functions of a miniature circuit breaker (MCB) and a residual current device (RCD) in a single housing only two modules wide. This combination provides comprehensive protection for electrical installations against the effects of overload, short circuits, and electric shock.

The device operates at a voltage of 230V AC and a rated current of 20A, offering a B type tripping characteristic. It features a sensitivity of 30mA (type A), making it ideal for protecting socket outlet circuits and electronic equipment sensitive to pulsating currents.

Operating parameters and safety

The device provides a high breaking capacity of 10kA according to the EN 61009-1 standard, guaranteeing effective interruption even of strong short-circuit currents. Energy limiting class 3 signifies the highest level of short-circuit energy limitation, minimizing the thermal and electrodynamic effects of a fault.

The rated insulation voltage of 440V and impulse withstand voltage of 4kV ensure safe operation in standard domestic and commercial installations. The device maintains full functionality in temperatures from -25°C to +40°C, and the IP20 protection rating protects against contact with live parts.

Construction and mounting capabilities

The breaker is designed for mounting on a standard DIN TH35 rail, allowing for quick installation in distribution boards. A mounting depth of 70mm allows for installation even in shallow enclosures. The design enables simultaneous disconnection of the phase conductor L and the neutral N, which is particularly important during maintenance work.

Screw terminals support single-core and multi-core wires with cross-sections from 1mm² to 25mm², ensuring connection versatility. The device weighs only 193g, and its dimensions are 35×75×80mm (width×height×depth).

Application and compatibility

The PKNM RCBO is ideal as protection for socket outlet circuits in residential buildings and office spaces. The Type A sensitivity allows for the detection of both sinusoidal and pulsating leakage currents, making it suitable for modern installations with switching power supplies.

The B characteristic ensures instantaneous tripping at short-circuit currents many times higher than the rated current, while not reacting to short-term current surges characteristic of starting electric motors. This solution is particularly recommended for protecting circuits supplying computer equipment and electronic devices that require stable power supply.
