Reactive power compensation with LPC capacitors

LPC capacitors are a reliable solution for reactive power compensation in electrical installations. Designed for use with inductive loads – transformers, motors, rectifiers and other industrial equipment – both individually and in automatic capacitor bank systems. They utilize low-loss polypropylene film, ensuring long-term and efficient operation. The construction with environmentally friendly polypropylene resin guarantees excellent heat dissipation properties, and the aluminum housing with overpressure disconnectors ensures safe use.

Construction and characteristics

LPC capacitors are manufactured in a ∆ (delta) configuration and filled with non-toxic polypropylene resin. They are available in two connection variants: connector connections (faston) for powers up to 5 kVAr and screw terminals for higher values. Made of metallized polypropylene film, they are characterized by self-healing ability – in the event of a breakdown, the metal evaporates, restoring insulation and allowing continued operation with a minimal capacitance drop (approx. 100 pF). This ensures high reliability and durability of the device. Additionally, the capacitors have discharge resistors that reduce the voltage at the terminals to a safe level (75V) within a maximum of 3 minutes after disconnection from the power supply – in accordance with PN-EN-61048, PN-EN-60252 and EN-60831-1/2 standards.

Installation and safety

LPC capacitors can be mounted both vertically and horizontally (horizontal mounting requires additional support). They have a lower screw allowing grounding of the housing and mounting. The internal overpressure disconnector protects the capacitor bank from damage in the event of exceeding the permissible operating parameters. Capacitors with a power of up to 5 kVAr are equipped with double FASTON type connectors with a protective cover to prevent accidental contact under voltage. Models with a power of 10...50 kVAr have tunnel terminals with an Allen screw providing a high degree of protection against direct contact.
