VPC XXL Flexible Coupling DN1670-1720MM
The VPC XXL DN1670-1720MM flexible coupling is a product for connecting sewage pipes with external diameters of 1670-1720mm. The product belongs to the VPC® XXL series, developed specifically for large nominal diameters from 1000mm to 2800mm, enabling the safe and effective connection of pipes made of various materials.
The system is designed to work with cast iron, PP (polypropylene), PE (polyethylene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), stoneware, concrete, and GRP (glass reinforced plastic) pipes. The design allows for a diameter reduction of up to ≤50mm, with the reduction process occurring uniformly around the entire circumference.
Construction and materials
The coupling consists of three main components: an adjustable sealing collar made of elastomeric rubber, a self-centering plastic positioning basket, and two stainless steel clamping bands. The sealing sleeve is made of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) according to DIN EN 681-1 WC/60 or, in a special version, of nitrile rubber (NBR) for resistance to oils and gasoline.
The positioning basket is made of highly impact-resistant, stable plastic, resistant to both low and high temperatures. Its conically deformable middle section and integrated strap guide channels on both sides ensure concentric and stepless reduction with a cylindrical alignment of both contact areas every time.
Material versatility and compatibility
The product enables the connection of pipes with the same nominal diameter but made of different materials—even with very different external diameters resulting from different pipe construction types. The system works excellently with corrugated, cast iron, stoneware, and smooth-walled pipes. The articulated middle section allows for separate reductions to be performed on each side of the coupling.
The design prevents the rubber from sliding or wrinkling during diameter adjustment because the positioning basket and the sealing sleeve maintain a neutral position relative to each other. While tightening the fastening straps, the sleeve adapts to various external pipe diameters.
Operating parameters and safety
The alloy steel used belongs to grades that are particularly resistant to corrosion and acids—standardly V2A (Werkstoff-Nr. 1.4301) or, in a special version, V4A (Werkstoff-Nr. 1.4404). The coupling is resistant to oils and gasoline and particularly resistant to aggressive substances contained in sewage and soil. The material is also resistant to the effects of saline seawater.
The system has DIBt-Zulassung Z-42.5-450 for nominal diameters of 100-2000mm and tightness confirmed by MFPA tests at an internal water pressure of 2.5 bar. Installation requires the use of a torque wrench at a torque of 25 Nm.
